What's more fun than a playground in February? Playing in puddles, especially when you can throw rocks and snow in! Although me and my small date for the day were headed outside to do some climbing, we ended up splashing in puddles, throwing rocks in, and experimenting with putting snow into the puddles. Remember one of those rules for playtime? Never have a plan :)
Although this isn't a walking destination from downtown Denver, it's worth a visit. I was very lucky to go on a quiet January day in the afternoon, and wouldn't want to be there during peak times as it really isn't that big of a space and would be difficult to really enjoy. Walk around the greenhouse area to see a variety of species of butterflies as well as them in their chrysalis form. The four year old I was with loved when the butterflies flew right near her, which they did frequently!
Enjoy the small playspace in the back. Flowers, a caterpillar, and a leaf slide are soft climbers similar to that you'd find at the Cherry Creek Mall.
Walk through a small maze-type area to find out more information about butterfly farming, natural resources, and the life circle of a butterfly. Walking through a "maze" was fun for the little one, but the information aspect went right over head, although I did try to point out small, simple bits of information that would be relevant to her as a four year old.
Against the wall is a small rope bridge for little ones to go across. There is also a small air-pressured tube in the center of the photo where children can put scarves and see them float into the air and try to catch them as they come down.
